Former Swapo Party Nkurenkuru constituency councillor Damian Nakambare, who was arrested for attempted murder last Sunday, made his first appearance in the Kahenge Periodic Court in the Kavango West Region on Tuesday.
The former member of the National Council is alleged to have shot and injured 42-year-old Samusiova Gabriel Hausiku, following a misunderstanding over car keys.
According to a charge sheet seen by this news agency, Nakambare was also charged with contravening the Arms and Ammunition Act and negligent handling of a firearm.
Hausiku sustained serious injuries in his abdomen, but is said to be in stable condition at the Nankudu Hospital.
During his court appearance, the state opposed his release on bail as he has pending cases including another attempted murder case, because of the seriousness of the matter and because investigations are still ongoing.
Magistrate Barry Mufana advised Nakambare that he can launch a formal bail application if he so wishes. The case was postponed to 08 November and he is remanded in police custody.
