Former police officer appears on N.dollars 720 000 cyber fraud charges

The Walvis Bay Magistrate Court has on Tuesday denied bail to a 30 year � old former Namibian police officer who made his first appearance on Cyber Fraud.

The accused appeared before Magistrate John Findano, who denied him the bail, while Prosecutor Maggy Shiyagaya-Lotto represented the state.

It is alleged that the accused, Ricardo Nestor, hacked the victim/complainant's emails in October last year, replaced the victim's banking details with his own, which subsequently resulted in a payment of N. dollars 720,000 into the accused's bank account.

It is further reported that the accused further withdrew part of the stolen money, as legitimate cash and transferred it into a foreign financial institution in South Africa.

The complainant is Walvis Bay businessman Jose Do Santos Mansinho,

The case was postponed to 05 March 2020 to allow time for further investigation.
