Four national titles will be up for grabs when Project Never Walk Alone (PNWA) hosts its boxing bonanza on 15 October, with the headline event being a bout between Tim Ekandjo and Martin “The Dogg” Morocky at the Windhoek Country Club.

PNWA aims to raise funds on an annual basis to give needy Namibian children a brand-new pair of shoes as well as to instill a new sense of confidence in them.

Upcoming boxers Sakaria Amutja, Bernard Bernard, Paulus Amavila, Morsande Johannes, Martin Mukungu, Immanuel Jason and Erastus Jonas will all have an opportunity to lift one of the national titles.

In an interview with Nampa on Monday, Ekandjo, who is the brainchild of PNWA, said they have thus far confirmed five undercards, with four of them being national title fights.

“Remember these boxers were suggested by boxing fans on social media because we wanted to see fighters on the card that have a following with their fans, and we also wanted to allow our national champions to defend their titles,” he said.

Ekandjo, who will fight in the main attraction on the night, added that training has not been going easy on his part, as it takes commitment.

“Sometimes I ask myself what I got myself into by agreeing to this fight but then I’m reminded by the thousands of barefooted children who will benefit from this intervention. Despite the injuries here and there, I am happy with the preparation so far and the level of my fitness for the huge task at hand,” said Ekandjo, who added that their goal of hosting this event is to raise N.dollars 1.9 million, towards buying more shoes and allowing the project to visit more regions.

On the night, Sakaria Amutja will face Bernard Bernard for the national welterweight title over 12 rounds. The junior welterweight title over 10 rounds will see Paulus Amavila taking on Morsande Johannes, while Martin Mukungu will take on Immanuel Jason for the national featherweight title over 10 Rounds.

The main supporting bout will see Immanuel Jason and Erastus Jonas fighting for the flyweight national title over 10 rounds, while a none-title bout on the night will be the bantamweight six-rounder between Nestor Thomas and Salaties Moses.
