Four people died on Friday night after the two vehicles they were travelling in collided with each other on the Otavi-Otjiwarongo B1 road.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Saturday told Nampa that the deceased are three women and an adult man.

The accident involved a blue Toyota pickup and a Toyota Fortuner at approximately 20 kilometres south of Otavi at about 20h23, Mbeha said.

The police officer stated that the pickup with an Outapi registration number was travelling from the direction of Otavi, while the Fortuner with Rundu registration headed in the opposite direction.

She said five occupants – four women and a male driver were in the Fortuner, while the pickup had a lone occupant – a male driver.

“Three women died from the Fortuner, while the driver of the pickup burned beyond recognition after his vehicle caught fire due to the severe impact of the crash,” Mbeha said.

The man and woman from the Fortuner who survived the accident were taken to the Tsumeb State Hospital in critical condition, she said.

The four deceased people are yet to be identified, Mbeha said, adding that the police were still also busy to establish the personal details of all the victims who were involved in the incident.

Police investigations continue.
