Fourth Namib Mills Equestrian Tournament

The fourth annual Namib Mills – Pasta la Vita Dressage amp Show Jumping tournament, hosted by the ReiterVerein Swakopmund, took place from 1 to 3 August.

This year, the hosts were fortunate to have FEI Level 5 dressage official and coach, Birgitt van der Eijken from Holland, visiting and assisting them throughout the tournament.

The tournament kicked off with the preliminary dressage events on Friday afternoon.

Simone Rueckert on Okakambe Oskar won the Children’s Dressage Test while Selina Schneider on her horse CTM Beatle Bomb took the lead in the Junior Class.

The Adult Preliminary Dressage was won by Petra Badenhorst on Buellsport Mister X with 65.50%.

The Adult Elementary Dressage was won by Sumari Piepmeyer on her horse FCS Katiti Legolas with a final percentage of 64.10%.

The tournament continued on Saturday morning with the Pasta la Vita Novice Dressage Tests.

Karin Schommarz on her horse Nanuk won the Children’s Class while her older sister, Karin on her horse Sphinxblick Romy, took the lead in the Junior Class.

Once again, the adult Novice Class was won by Sumari Piepmeyer on Legolas.

Excitement grew for the Pony riders, who took part in their own little Dinky Dressage test. This class was won by Kirsten Savage on her Pony Okakambe Dondolo with a stunning 71,07%.

Another highlight was the Para Adult Dressage test, which was won by Albertus Bredenhann on his Pony BB Zorro from Henties Bay.

The 4th Namib Mills tournament was officially opened by the Namibian Equestrian Federation Chairman, Tom Newton after the representatives of Namib Mills, Megan Zondagh and Vanessa Weakley officially handed over a sponsorship of N$ 20 000 to the ReiterVerein Swakopmund.

The tournament continued with the Show Jumping events in the afternoon.

The Pasta la Vita Pixie Welcome Stakes over 40cm was won by Carmen Piepmeyer on her pony Jason, while Sarita Rossouw won the round over 60cm with her pony Okakambe Mogli.

The 70cm Welcome Stakes was won Ariane Wieland on her pony Mahida while Salina Schneider won the Welcome Stakes over 80cm on her horse CTM Nik Nak.

Jessica Bolleurs on her horse Coudelaria Struchtemeier Zorro took the lead in the 90cm class.

On Sunday, tough competition was seen in the 90cm classes. The Joker Top Score Competition was won by Gesche Gilchrist on her horse Midgard Star Walker while Sebastian Braune took the lead on his horse Zonjati Bon Camillo in the Pasta la Vita Competition over 90cm.

Laura Pflippen on Buellsport Da Capo had a beautiful round in the 1m Pasta la Vista Competition, securing herself gold while Salom Nghnamito on Bagheera took the lead in the Joker Top Score Competition over 1m.

g competition was witnessed between Lara Knickel on Varsfontein Bonhomie and Silvia Kleyenstueber on Midgard Gigant in the 110m120m class. Both riders took turns winning their various competitions.

The organizers thanked Namib Mills for their generous and loyal support towards the prestige and action-filled event. The RVS team also thanked all participants, officials, helpers and spectators for their loyal support, excellent sportsmanship and the great atmosphere that was experienced during the entire Namib Mills tournament 2014.

The next RVS event will take place on 9 and 10 August. This will be the second Eventing Qualifying tournament which is proudly being sponsored by CTM Swakopmund.

This show will be a preparation tournament for the upcoming FNB Namibian Championships at the end of October and furthermore, a qualification round for the International FEI One Star Eventing tournament which will be hosted by the RVS on the newly built RVS Eventing Park Cross County Track in mid February 2015.
