President Hage Geingob has described the death of Absai Mungendje as a major loss to the Ovaherero community and the Namibian nation at large.

In a press release issued on Sunday by the Presidency, Geingob extended a message of condolences to the family of the former Divine Priest, who died on Thursday at the age of 99.

“During this difficult time of bereavement, I join the family and the entire community in mourning the passing of an elder who devoted his life to the preservation of the Ovaherero culture and traditions,” he said.

Mungendje was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the sacred shrine at the Chief Hosea Kutako Homestead in Toasis, Aminius.

“I met him on several occasions, including two weeks ago when I went to inspect progress on the Hosea Kutako Memorial Museum and Shrine at Toasis. We exchanged pleasantries, and he thanked the government for the construction of the Chief Hosea Kutako Memorial Museum and Shrine,” said the Head of State.
