President Hage Geingob on Thursday expressed support for the construction of a new district hospital planned to happen this year in Windhoek in the Khomas Region.

The president said at his 2023 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday that the envisaged Khomas District Hospital is entirely expected to relieve congestion of patients at the two State health facilities – the Katutura State Hospital and Windhoek Central Hospital.

He stated that the construction of the new State health facility which will contain 300 hospital beds, will absolutely improve access to healthcare for the citizens, which is the greatest asset ever any country can achieve and be proud of.

“Also, on our new Universal Health Coverage Policy being developed, we should support it as it aims to ensure that our people across the country would access quality healthcare services at different health facilities and service providers,” he said.

Several members of Parliament who attended his SONA applauded him on this news of the construction of the new district hospital in Windhoek, as well as on the announcement of the new Universal Health Coverage Policy being established.
