President Hage Geingob is on Wednesday expected to address the second Qatar Economic Forum on inequality and the emergence of Namibia as a new green energy superpower in Africa.

The forum, which started in Doha on Monday, brings together more than 500 global business leaders and heads of state to discuss ways toward post-COVID-19 economic recovery, and eliminate poverty and inequality among countries.

It ends Wednesday.

The Presidency in a statement on Tuesday said Geingob will also hold meetings with key investors in the domains of agriculture, energy and other sectors, with more than 74 keynote speakers to discuss economic trends and challenges through various sessions.

“Geingob held bilateral talks with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at his royal palace on Monday, where Geingob informed him that fighting poverty was a key goal of the Namibian government.

It was for that reason that Namibia was seeking more investments from friendly countries like Qatar in order to grow the economy and create jobs, especially for young people,’ it said.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways will be resuming flights to Namibia on 25 June 2022 and the two leaders agreed that the tourism sector held tremendous potential for growth.

‘The Qatari government has shown interest in working closely with Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) in order to scale up cooperation in the hospitality and mining sectors,’ the Presidency said.
