President Hage Geingob will travel to Gaborone, Botswana on 08 September 2022 to attend the Botswana-Namibia Bi-National Commission (BNC) session, to discuss security and defence matters between the two countries.

A statement issued by the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation on Saturday said BNC is a high-level bilateral agreement signed between Geingob and Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi during his visit on 29 January 2022. It replaced the joint commission on cooperation and the joint permanent commission on security and defence between the two countries.

The commission is expected to review cooperation in a wide range of areas including Diplomatic, Legal, Economic, Social, and Defence and Security, as well as exchange views on issues of mutual interest and concern at the regional and multilateral fora.

The Head of State BNC summit will be preceded by the senior officials and ministerial meeting from 05 to 08 September, and two countries are expected to consider and sign new bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding.

The statement further noted that Geingob will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah; Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Albert Kawana; Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein; Minister of Health and Social Services, Kalumbi Shangula; Minister of Industrialisation and Trade, Lucia Iipumbu; Attorney General, Advocate Festus Mbandeka; and Deputy Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hilma Nicanor.
