Geingob welcomes new heads of missions

President Hage Geingob on Thursday received letters of credence from the new head of missions of 11 countries.

The new heads of missions to Namibia, who were received at a ceremony held at State House, include ambassadors and high commissioners from Brazil, Japan, Zambia, Vietnam, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, Malawi, Czech Republic, Serbia and Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic.

Acknowledging the letters of credence, Geingob welcomed the head of missions, noting that Namibia has existing excellent relationships with these countries, some of which date back to the liberation struggle days.

Presenting her letter of appointment, Malawian Ambassador to Namibia, Stella Ndau, pledged her cooperation to enhance the good relationship that exists between the two countries, especially in the areas of trade and tourism, noting that Malawi has great agricultural produce that can earn a market in Namibia.

Equally, Ambassador designate for the Republic of Ireland, Bronagh Carr, said Ireland aims to put more footprints in Namibia, which will be built on the strong existing relationship that the two countries.

“Ireland and Namibia’s relationship dates back for a very long time. The first United Nations Commissioner to Namibia was an Irishman. what we share is a commitment to human rights, to a multilateral system and international cooperation,” she said.
