The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Child Welfare on Wednesday announced that all Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDCs) will resume face-to-face learning on 04 August.

The ministry in a media statement said in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the winter holidays have been extended until early August as opposed to resuming on 25 July, as earlier announced.

“Teachers will be required to return to school on 02 August 2021, while learners should return for face-to-face teaching on 04 August,” the statement reads.

The announcement follows an earlier notice by the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, which also extended the winter holiday until early August.

In a statement issued recently, education executive director Sanet Steenkamp announced that pre-primary to grade nine learners, currently on winter holiday, will only resume face-to-face learning on 04 August 2021 while Grades 10, 11 and AS learners will return for face-to-face teaching and learning on 12 August 2021.

These learners were initially given a winter holiday until 26 July 2021.

Steenkamp advised teachers to continue with alternative modes of teaching and learning and make use of all available options including offline and online approaches until face-to-face school resumes.

In the meantime, learners and guardians are advised to make use of materials and content by the Namibia College of Open Learning (Namcol) on their website. The same content is also streamed on One Africa Television; DSTV Channel 284 and will soon be brought to different radio stations.
