A 14-year-old learner of Thikanduko Primary School in the Kavango East Region’s Mukwe Constituency was attacked and killed by a crocodile on Tuesday.

The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for Kavango East, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa the incident occurred at Thikanduko village around 15h00.

The girl had reportedly gone to the river with other learners from the school to get water to drink.

The attack follows reports last week that a five-year-old girl was killed by a crocodile at Katere village.

Local daily newspaper The Namibian reported that 33-year-old Eveline Mukuve had gone to the river to fetch water for cooking, only to notice that her daughter had followed her there.

The crocodile attacked Mukuve’s daughter before she could reach her.
