Girl dies in accident at Shamundambo village

A 13-year-old girl died on Tuesday after she was run over by a vehicle at Shamundambo village in the Kavango East Region.

The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator for the region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa on Thursday the accident occurred around 17h40 and the driver of the car was unlicensed.

According to the deputy commissioner, the driver of a white station wagon was driving from the east to the west on the Divundu-Andara gravel road.

It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle when he reached Shamundambo village and allegedly drove into the girl who was walking on the side of the road.

The girl died on the spot.

The driver of the car was also seriously injured and was rushed to the Andara District Hospital.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
