Girl killed in alleged hit and run incident in Rehoboth

An 11 year-old girl died on the spot after he was hit by speeding vehicle driven by a rowdy driver on Saturday in Kuvukiland in Rehoboth.

The Namibian Police Force's crime investigation coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Sunday the incident happened between 16h30 and 17h00.

t is alleged that driver believed to be a female, of a silver Toyota Tazz with a Rehoboth registration number came speeding in a street where children were playing. The children then ran in different directions to escape the speeding vehicle, but the driver who could not handle the vehicle veered off the road and drove into the nearby yard through the fence and hit the kid who ran into the zink house, allegedly killing the child on the spot, Clay said.

Clay said the driver who is known, failed to assist the victim and vanished from the scene and is still at large.

A case of culpable homicide, reckless and or negligent driving and failure to assist the victim after an accident was opened against the suspect.

The deceased was identified as Danelle Mouton.

Next of kin of deceased informed of his death and police investigations continue.
