Gladiators draws with Uganda

The Brave Gladiators and the Uganda played to a thrilling goalless draw on Thursday afternoon at the Nelson Mandela University in their opening Group C match at the 2021 Cosafa Women championships.

Namibia struggled to get hold of the ball and control the midfield in the first half, but improved greatly in the second half, creating chances but failed to make them count.

Coach Woody Jacobs states the team could have worked more on getting better results however a draw is a fair result.

“Uganda put us under a lot of pressure, which affected our game plan and tactics, but our players held their own and delivered an assured performance in the end.”

Namibia and Uganda both stand on a point each, while Zambia leads with three points following a 5-0 victory over Eswatini.

“We close the chapter on Uganda, and take the lessons we’ve learnt from this match to build onto our preparations for Zambia”, states Jacobs.

Skipper Eddelsisingh Naris was selected the best player of the match.

Namibia will lock horns with Zambia on Sunday in a crucial match, where both teams will look to collect maximum points, and finish off with Eswatini on Tuesday.
