Gobabis Municipality CEO laid to rest

The late Chief Executive Officer of the Gobabis Municipality Ignatius Thudinyane was laid to rest at Gobabis on Sunday.

Thudinyane who has been steering the municipality since 2018 succumbed to COVID-19-related complications on 03 July 2021. He was 60.

Addressing mourners at a memorial service held in his honour, just before he was laid to rest, Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganante described Thudinyane as a strategic leader and an administrator who was calculated.

“I refer to him as a soft-spoken giant and indeed, strategic leader. Many of times we could not understand his speeches because they have gone along with calculations,” he said.

The region, he said has lost many prominent figures over the past weeks, from traditional leaders to academics to professionals, human resources, knowledgeable people and Thudinyane is one of them.

The governor further said, like the rest of the country, Omaheke continue fighting the COVID-19 pandemic which has been referred to as an invisible enemy which has very accurate and painful attacks.

Speaking at the same occasion, Gobabis Mayor Elvire Theron described the late CEO as a visionary, dedicated and passionate leader who was willing to fight for the upliftment of Gobabis and whose humility spoke volumes of leadership with a team spirit.

“I have not seen so much passion in a long time and this I will never forget. I will never forget the plans he had for Gobabis and we as leaders and the community of Gobabis must hold hands and take Gobabis to the next level because the legacy of such a great leader needs to live forever,” said
