Government of Namibia has so far received close to N.dollars 99.5 million in cash donations towards the drought relief programme

The government has so far received close to N.dollars 99.5 million in cash donations towards the drought relief programme, Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Stanley Simataa has revealed.

Simataa during a media briefing on Cabinet resolutions here Thursday said N.dollars 93 700 000 was donated by eight local organisations while N.dollars 5 679 574 was donated by international organisations, meaning N.dollars 99 379 574 in cash has been received so far.

Simataa said the government also received N.dollars 70 000 in kind, while N.dollars 14 380 000 in pledges is still outstanding.

He called on the Namibian people to take a positive lead from international institutions that contributed toward the drought relief programme and show the same level of goodwill.

Simataa further said President HageGeingob and some members of Cabinet have already started contributing towards drought relief and those amounts will be revealed to the media during the next media briefing in order to ensure transparency in managing the resources contributed.
