Green scheme workers strike over non-payment of salaries

Green scheme employees held a strike at Rundu yesterday over the non-payment of their salaries for the months of July and August, as well as other grievances.

They marched to the office of the Governor of the Kavango East Region, where they handed over a petition.

In the petition read by the president of the Namibia Farm Workers Union (NAFWU), Cornelius Ntelamo the workers said they have to feed themselves and their families and also have bills to pay.

They further claimed that their monthly tax contributions to the Ministry of Finance and Social Security Commission (SSC) are not paid over on time, making it look like they are in arrears with these services providers.

Their petition was received by Kavango East Governor Samuel Mbambo, who promised to hand it over to the relevant authorities.
