Health minister welcomes 15th Chinese medical team

Minister of Health and Social Services, Kalumbi Shangula welcomed the 15th Chinese medical team to Namibja on Thursday.

Shangula said during the renewal ceremony at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital that the presence of these Chinese medical teams in the health facilities have enriched the services delivered to the patients as he bid farewell to the 14th Chinese medical team and welcomed the 15th team.

“We appreciate and value the services rendered by the Chinese medical teams and the contributions they have made to the health of the Namibian people,” Shangula said.

He acknowledged the work done by the 14th Chinese medical team over the past one and a half years, adding that they accomplished a lot, especially when it came to Namibia’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The 14th Chinese medical team to Namibia worked hard and made remarkable achievements, in particular when Namibia was faced with the unprecedented challenge of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Also attending was the newly arrived Chinese Ambassador, Zhao Weiping, who said that the Republic of China is looking forward to providing more scholarships and medical training in the Namibian health sector.

China has been dispatching medical teams to Namibia since 1996 to promote traditional Chinese medicine.
