Healthcare workers are everyday heroes: Geingob

 President Hage Geingob has urged all Namibians to appreciate health workers and all people in the health sector for their dedication and sacrifices they make in saving lives, especially during this time of COVID-19.

The president said in this in a statement availed to the media on Tuesday, to mark the commemoration of World Health Day.

The head of state expressed his appreciation to the healthcare workers in the country for their dedication and the steering job they continue doing in saving lives, urging the nation to appreciate their sacrifices by rendering them all the cooperation they need, during this difficult time.

“As we solemnly mark World Health Day in the middle of COVID-19 global health pandemic, I sincerely thank you, our healthcare workers who are carrying out commendable work as we are battling this deadly virus,’’ said the president.

He said it is moments like this that the country’s attention is sharply focused on how vital and how brave the health workers are as individuals.

“Nurses, doctors, emergency services and all those who provide services in the health sector, save lives. They are everyday heroes,” the president said.

The head of state further urged every Namibian citizen to treat COVID-19 with the seriousness it deserves by abiding by the regulations in order to effectively combat the pandemic.

World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated on 07 April every year.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the day is marked to celebrate the work of nurses and midwives and remind world leaders of the critical role they play in keeping the world healthy.
