Katima mulilo: The Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (MICT) expressed satisfaction with the progress so far made in the preparations of Heroes Day commemoration set for Tuesday at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region. Its acting executive director, Linda Aipinge-Nakale, in an interview with Nampa on Saturday, said tents have been erected and members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) are in high spirits to lead a street procession before the event.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the commemorations will take place at the Katima Mulilo Sports Stadium with about 20,000 local people and from across the country expected to attend. ‘We will have transport to collect our local people at various pickup and drop off points on 26 August 2025,’ said Aipinge-Nakale.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will address the nation, and provisions have been made for those who are unable to attend to hear her message through radio and television channels of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), she added. MICT and other social media platforms will also assist in livestreaming and informing the nation as the event unfolds, she said.

Aipinge-Nakale further called on the young people to turn up in large numbers, and to follow the entire event on several social media platforms, to hear stories and the history of how their forefathers had liberated Namibia from the yoke of the South African colonial regime. Several national, political, and traditional leaders, amongst others, are expected to attend the event, she said.
