The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has sent a stern warning to foreign students that apply for study permits but engage in other businesses in the country, saying they will face appropriate measures.

The ministry, in a public announcement on Tuesday, said it wishes to send a stern warning to prospective foreign students who apply for student permits but do not actually attend classes and instead engage in business.

‘They should be cautioned that appropriate measures will be taken,’ it said.

The ministry noted that applications for student permits can be submitted between 12 November 2021 and 28 February 2022, citing that it is imperative that all foreign students submit their applications within the given period as no extension will be given.

The notice said applications for those studying short courses of less than a year may be submitted at any time, provided that there is an offer from the relevant institution and foreign students must apply and wait for the outcome while outside Namibia.

“All applicants should comply with stipulated requirements. Applicants are required to sign the relevant application forms and provide certified copies of all documents. Approval letters or acknowledgement receipts issued to students by the ministry cannot be used at the port of entry as proof of a study permit,” added the ministry.
