The Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA) has warned the public against registering at institutions or healthcare-related courses that are not recognized by the council.

The HPCNA in a media statement issued on Friday advised the public to verify the approval status of the courses with the Education and Training Quality Assurance Department of the HPCNA.

This comes after an institution by the name of Windhoek Medical University had advertised registrations for a certificate, diploma, and degree programs in various healthcare-related fields on social media.

“Therefore, the public is being warned that neither the above-mentioned institution nor healthcare-related courses advertised are approved by any of the Councils as required by the relevant acts,” HPCNA announced.

The consequences of enrolling in healthcare programs which the councils have not approved would be the student not being registered with any of the councils as a student, and not being allowed to enter public or private hospitals and health facilities in Namibia for purposes of practical training.

“Upon completion of the course such person will not be registered with any of the Councils and therefore will not be allowed to practice a health care profession in Namibia,” HPCNA said.

All efforts to get a comment from the Windhoek Medical University proved futile as their phone went unanswered.
