The implementation of the 2nd phase of the Nationhood and National Pride (NNP) Strategic Framework (2020 – 2025) remains one of the challenges faced by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology.

These challenges particularly include funding models and implementation approaches in ensuring that regions and Offices, Ministries and Agencies (OMAs) take ownership of this national initiative in a manner that is most suitable and sustainable, given various socio-economic conditions, and geographical and political dynamics across the country.

Launched in November 2020, the 2nd phase NNP documents set out a clear vision, mission and value statements that together express the aspirations of Namibian citizens and where they want to be as a nation within the overall developmental framework as set out in Vision 2030.

Minister Peya Mushelenga at the official opening of the NNP Programme Progress Review Conference in Swakopmund on Wednesday noted that the ministry with its stakeholders will therefore establish the NNP programme National Implementation Committee with clear terms of reference and implementation structure, management and administration of its activities across OMAs and stakeholders.

“The holding of this review conference serves as a testimony where as a custodian ministry, MICT is taking stock and assessing progress made following the Cabinet approval of these two documents (NNP) Strategic Framework and its Implementation.

Part of the approach is to take stock and review progress made by various stakeholders after the launch, thus the essence of why we deem it fit to host this NNP Progress Review Conference with the view to charting the way forward in creating synergy and cohesion within ourselves,’ he said.

He however expressed confidence that with the active support and involvement of all stakeholders, the ministry will eventually achieve its objectives and goals.

Mushelenga added that besides giving strategic direction to collective actions, the review conference also provides a behavioural map to consolidate Namibia’s national identity, support Vision 2030 and continuously cultivate national pride.

The three-day conference will also accord stakeholders an opportunity to review each other’s commitment to the NNP programme and advice on how different activities can be aligned.
