Indian folk dance at Zoo Park

KEETMANSHOOP: The High Commission of India, in partnership with the Namibian Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, and the City of Windhoek, will present an Indian folk dance and music performance in Windhoek on Tuesday.

A 12-member dance troupe from India will conduct a show from 18h30 – 21h00 at the Zoo Park Amphitheatre in the capital.

An additional performance is planned for the Namibian student community to give them exposure to Indian Folklore and traditional dances.

“Originating from the Punjab province of India, ‘Bhangra & Giddha’ is a highly energetic and rhythmic folk dance performed by artists clad in fascinating colourful costumes,” a press release from the High Commission reads.

The rich and pulsating drum beats combined with joyous singing are unique to this dance form that holds the audience spellbound, the statement further notes.

The presentation is made possible under the cultural agreement between India and Namibia, while a portion of the sponsorship was received from Windhoek-based Garnish Indian Restaurant and Blueberry Travels.

Additional information regarding the shows can be obtained from Ivan at 081 8701 948 or the High Commission of India at 061 226037.
