Indian National arrested for alleged bribery of police officer

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region on Tuesday arrested an Indian national after he allegedly bribed a police officer in the Onandjaba Settlement.

NamPol in a crime report availed here Wednesday said the suspect reportedly approached the officials and offered N.dollars 18 500 in cash to have six Indian nationals, who are currently in police custody, released. The six men are in detention for Contravention of the Immigration Control Act.

The report further said the suspect was arrested during a police action and the money was confiscated.

“Upon investigation, it was uncovered that the suspect is not in possession of valid documents to be in Namibia. We therefore request and warn the public to be alert and report any suspicious people, who might be illegal in Namibia,” the report read.

Police investigations continue.
