Kashopola retires as 21 Brigade commander

Commander of 21 Motorised Infantry Brigade (Bde), Brigadier General Erastus Kashopola here on Thursday handed over the reins to the incoming Brig Gen Martin Shikomba after servicing the Namibian Defence Force for 29 years.

Kashopola handed over command to the incoming Brig Gen Shikomba as new 21 Bde GOC at Tobias Hainyeko Garrison.

In his speech, Kashopola said he was delighted to bid farewell to military environment after 40 years in uniform.

He wished the incoming commander well and encouraged all commanders at all the levels especially the appointing authorities, the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence amongst others to work together with him adding that he has no doubt in Shikomba to command and lead 21 Bde as he is a tested leader.

In his acceptance speech, Shikomba thanked the appointing authorities for entrusting him with such a challenging task to lead men and women in uniform under 21 Bde command.

Shikomba said he is well acquainted with the task ahead of him and assured the men in uniform that he will carry on from where his predecessor has ended.

I am ready as the third incoming GOC 21 Mot InfBde, to serve as one of your subordinate commander. I must now focus my attention on new horizons, he stated.

Shikomba said he is optimistic and confident that together, 21 Bde will achieve what is require including training, discipline, commitment amongst others.

The event was attended by higher ranking officers from Ministry of Defence, Namibian Police including Minister of Defence, Penda yaNdakolo, Acting Chief of Defence, Air Vice Marshal, Martin Pinehas amongst other dignitaries.
