Kasu Neefie Kandjii Cup 2021 this weekend

The 11th edition of the annual Neefie Kandjii football and netball tournament is set for Saturday and Sunday at the Khomasdal Sports Field in Windhoek.

The tournament, expected to conclude next weekend, was formally established in 2010 and has attracted more than 100 teams countrywide thus far.

Tournament organiser Kuveri Tjonga told Nampa on Friday all netball games including the finals are expected to conclude on Saturday, while football fixtures will also conclude at the same venue next weekend.

The registration fee for both codes was N.dollars 1 900, with teams set to battle it out for the prize money of N.dollars 30 000. Ten netball and 17 football teams have thus far registered, with the netball winning team to walk away with N.dollars 5 000, while the runner-up will pocket N.dollars 2 500 and the two semi-final losers will each have to settle for N.dollars 1 250.

For the football category, the champions will receive N.dollars 10 000 and the runner-up N.dollars 5 000, while the semi-final losers will each walk away with N.dollars 2 500.

Saturday netball fixtures will see Tom and Jerry going up against the Embonde netball team to be followed by Deffie Lion versus Ajax Mamboro, with Atletico De Prosto set to take on Afrocat in the third fixture.

Otjiyere-tja-Tjinene will then take on Red Fire, while Kasu Eleven will close off versus Otjimati.

In what will be described as the fiercest derby in the football category, Omaruru-based outfits United Stars will take on counterparts Duko Warriors in the first game to be followed by Otjimati Master versus Orunarongue.

Otjimati will then battle it out with Dynamos-ja-Vihitua, to be followed by Otjiyere-tja-Tjinene up against Red Fire while Ajax Mamboro will take on the boys from Havana. Kasu Eleven and Herero Mall will go up against each other in the last match on Saturday.

Sunday fixtures will see last edition champions Tom and Jerry going up against Atletico de Prosto, to be followed by Embonde Football Club versus either United Stars or Duko Warriors, while Epukiro-based outfit Okovimburu Warriors will be up against Shooting Star.

All COVID-19 measures and protocols will be observed at all times.
