Katjavivi closes National Assembly sessions ahead of national elections

�The Speaker of National Assembly Peter Katjavivi bid farewell to Namibian Parliamentarians as the country prepares for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections slated towards the end of November 2019.

The session which is the last parliamentary session of 2019 was scheduled to end on 28 November 2019 but due to Presidential and Parliamentary elections slated for 27 November 2019, the parliament has closed its business until 11 February 2020.

Katjavivi bid farewell to parliamentarians on Friday before closing the tenth session of the sixth parliament in the National Assembly to concentrate on the election process.

As we move from here, I wish you all well, good health and all the best in the upcoming elections since we all have a very important assignment, that is, to return to the people of this country and to seek a new mandate from the people of this country, said the Speaker.

He added that It is his hope and prayer that all will proceed peacefully as it has become the Namibian tradition that citizens continue to preserve peace and stability of the Republic of Namibia.

Fifteen political parties will be contesting for the National Assembly seats while 11 candidates will be contesting for Presidency.
