The Kunene Football League has completed the first round of its transitional league over the weekend which saw 12 games taking place in Kamanjab and Outjo.

Saturday’s group two fixtures saw Khorixas-based outfit Orlando Gariseb beating Etosha United from Ombika with a one-goal margin while Green Dangers of Kamanjab and Kunene NamPol from Opuwo played to a one-all draw. Kamanjab-based Revengers were beaten 3-0 in their own backyard by Robber Chanties.

Black Africa Warriors drew 3-3 with Young Eagles, with Pubs FC and Outjo Football Academy also playing to a goalless draw while Khaibasen FC recorded a win after beating Sixty Eleven one goal to nil.

On Sunday, Kunene NamPol proved to be too strong for Orlando Gariseb by thrashing them 4-0, while Green Dangers and Robber Chanties played to a one-goal draw. Etosha United recorded the highest winning margin after beating Revengers mercilessly 6-0. Young Eagles lost to Pubs FC 2-1, Outjo Football Academy beat Khaibasen 1-0, with Sixty Eleven registering their second defeat after going down 1-0 to Black Africa Warriors.

KFL vice-chairperson Bolla Nangombe told Nampa on Monday that the completion of the first round proved futile and that most of the teams played well judging by the time all the teams spent without active football for the past two years.

Nangombe said the league will continue on Tuesday, 25 May, with Sixty Eleven taking on OFA, Young Eagles versus Khaibasen, Black Africa Warriors vs Pubs FC.

Other fixtures include Green Dangers against Revengers, Kunene NamPol versus Etosha United while Robber Chanties will take on Orlando Pirates in the Khorixas derby at the Herbert Conradie Stadium.

The transitional league, as announced by NFA secretary-general Franco Cosmos in March 2021, will be divided into two groups to be played in three phases in preparing the teams for the 2021/22 football season kick-off in September this year.
