Kharas loses opening match at Skorpion Zink tourney

Karas region lost their opening match of the 2019 Skorpion Zink under 17 tournament by a 1-0 scoreline to Kavango East at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday.

But the day belonged to Alberto De Sousa who scored all the goals for Oshikoto who thumped Omusati 5-1.

While goals were scarce in most of the matches, De Sousa also set the tournament record when he scored the fasted goal within 13 seconds of kick off.

He then added the second goal on the 8th minute before completing his hatrick a minute later to leave Oshikoto leading by 3-0 within 10 minutes of the match.

The striker then scored his fourth goal in the 28th minute following a huge blunder by Omusati goalkeeper Simon Ausiku, who let a seemingly harmless shot bounce in front of him and trickle into the net to make it 4-0 at halftime.

Second half saw an improved performance by Omusati who pulled one back through DiogenusNakale but De Sousa was back to haunt Ausiku when he beat the offside trap and coolly slotted past the diving goalkeeper to make it 5-1 for Oshikoto.

Meanwhile defending champions Karas got their defence off t a woeful start when they lost by 1-0 to KavangoEast who scored through..

In other matches, Erongo defeated Otjozondjupa 2-0 with goals from RayvenNahale, while the Nelito Da Costa was the first player to receive a red card during the tournament.

Zambezi then beat Kunene by 1-0 following a great performance by JohanessMachille in goals for the winning team.

The only goal in that match was scored by Mike Mwiya.

Omaheke, the losing finalist of last year's tournament also kick started they campaign with a hard fought 2-0 win over Hardap after UsielKandorozu scored both goals

Kavango West then caused an upset when they defeated Ohangwena by 2-0 through goals by man of the match Castro Ihemba and PetrusLuyeni.

Erongo were back to play their second match of the day and emerged victorious by beating Kunene 3-2 in an exciting match.

Kunene scored their goals through Nangoro Laurens, while Erongo found the back of the net through DinelsonNande who scored a hatrick.

Khomas then accounted for Zambezi with a 5-1 scoreline as goals from Romeo Amon, FilippoMitcheletti who scored a hatrick and Deco Gonteb made sure of the maximum points for the host region.

Mwiya scored the consolation goal for Zambezi, which was also his second.

In the last match f the day, Karas beat Omaheke by 2-1 with Kwaitros Dirks and Norman Katjiteo finding the net for the defending champions while KasoraKapuoo found the consolation for Omaheke.

The competition continues on Saturday at the Sam Nujoma starting at 0800hours with nine matches throughout the day.

This is the sixth edition of the Skorpion Zink under 17 Tournament which is being held in the Khomas Region.

The four day tournament started on Friday and will conclude on Monday
