||Kharas Region’s Swapo Party members remember chief Stephanus

Swapo Party’s Regional Coordinator for the ||Kharas Region, Matheus Mumbala, said the late Vaalgras Traditional Authority Chief, Joel Stephanus, was a great leader who devoted the prime years of his life to serving his community and the Swapo Party.

Mumbala was speaking during a memorial service held in the late chief Stephanus’ honour here on Thursday.

“His unwavering loyalty and service are exemplary and self-evident. His devotion to our national cause and values will forever remain printed in our minds, as a nation, and in particular the Swapo Party, we will always be grateful for the crucial role the chief played in the liberation of this country,” said Mumbala, adding that Stephanus’outstanding service, stemming from 1975, will remain a source of inspiration and motivation to many aspiring leaders.

“He was equally generous, cheerful and a friendly person. As we mourn and pay homage to this visionary leader, let us celebrate his life and achievements. To the family and the entire clan of Vaalgras, may you be consoled and may be granted strength during this difficult time of mourning,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the family, late chief Stephanus’ son, Sarles Aiseb, said Stephanus will be remembered as a person that was always concerned with the people on the street and fought for their betterment.

“He was a selfless man. He was someone that believed in restorative justice and this is evident in his deeds as he participated in the genocide talks and we should develop on his legacy,” he said.

Stephanus succumbed to COVID-19 complications in the Keetmanshoop hospital on 07 July 2021. He was 77.

He is survived by his wife and six children.
