||Kharas Under-17 football team departs for Skorpion Zinc Cup

The ||Kharas Region's Under-17 football team on Thursday left for Windhoek, where they will be competing in the 2019 edition of The Skorpion Zinc Cup.

The tournament will take place in Windhoek from 23-26 August and will see all 14 regions compete in what is the biggest youth tournament for the U-17s.

Briefing the teams before their departure, ||Kharas Governor Lucia Basson wished them luck and encouraged them to display respect and discipline on and off the pitch as they are ambassadors of the region.

You are ambassadors of your school, your parent, your different towns and villages and lastly this great region make us proud I wish you all best of luck, said Basson.

Basson added that the team should bring back the cup to her region.

That cup should come back here in my office, anyway is for this region Skorpion Zinc mine is in Rosh Pinah in the ||Kharas region so it belong here. I do not believe in saying let the best team win but let you bring the cup home, she said.

||Kharas region are the defending campion and is have been grouped with Hardap, Omaheke, Kavango East and Oshana in group B.

In group A, hosts Khomas will go up against Erongo, Kunene, Zambezi and Otjozondjupa.

Group C is comprised of Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Omusati and Kavango West.

The top three teams and the best placed runner-up will qualify for the semi-finals of the competition.
