Windhoek: Commissioner Willem Steenkamp’s two-year leadership at the NamPol Khomas Regional Police Command concluded on Friday with the official transition of command to Commissioner Johanna Ngondo.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ngondo will assume the role of commander effective 01 November 2025, making history as the first female to hold this position in Khomas. Steenkamp will transition to an advisor role within the Office of the Inspector General, a position that Ngondo previously occupied.
Ngondo is well-acquainted with the responsibilities of her new position, having served a decade as the first female regional commander for the Kavango East Region before her appointment as a special advisor in the Office of the Inspector General.
At the official handover event held at the Khomas Regional Council, Major General Anne-Marie Nainda, Deputy Inspector-General for Administration of the Namibian Police Force, acknowledged Commissioner Steenkamp’s leadership and his ability to maintain the region’s crime levels despite ongoing challenges. She commended his lasting impact on the safety of the Khomas Region and the broader Namibian nation.
Nainda encouraged Ngondo to continue building upon the achievements of her predecessors and to remain responsive to the evolving security needs of the region. She highlighted that the trust in Ngondo comes from both NamPol senior management and the citizens of Khomas.
Eliaser Iyambo, Deputy Chief and Head of Operations at the Windhoek City Police, praised Steenkamp’s leadership for enhancing inter-agency relations within the Khomas security cluster. He stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration between the Namibian Police Force and the Windhoek City Police Service, aiming to uphold the established standard of security.
Ngondo expressed her commitment to her new role, viewing her appointment as a reflection of the trust placed in her by the Inspector General of the Namibian Police. She pledged to dedicate herself to fostering a community actively engaged in combating crime.
