KRC prioritises water infrastructure installation in WHK Rural Constituency

The Khomas Regional Council (KRC) has allocated N.dollars 4.3 million in the 2022/23 financial year, towards the drilling of boreholes and installation of water infrastructure in the Windhoek Rural Constituency.

Officially opening the council here Friday, its chairperson John Moonde said the funds were allocated under the Water Intervention Programme aimed to address the dire water challenges, faced by rural residents in the region.

He said under the current financial year which ends in March 2023, a budget of N.dollars 13 million was availed to implement 19 projects of which six have been completed while 13 are at various stages of implementation.

Council, he added is currently constructing 101 portable toilets in different localities in the constituency at a total cost of N.dollars 1.5 million, while 79 toilets have been constructed thus far.

“To address unemployment, the Council has allocated N.dollars 2.5 million towards the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Generating Activities programme to assist them with equipment and materials,” he noted.

Moonde also indicated that a total of N.dollars 500 000 was allocated to the Winter Safety Net Programme aimed at distributing blankets mostly to people without shelter in all constituencies and another N.dollars 500 000 was allocated for the Back to School Program to assist underprivileged learners with school uniforms and stationery items in the region.

He went on to say that a total of N.dollars 68 277 was geared towards the HIV local response programme to procure and distribute food to the underprivileged people living with HIV.

Equally, N.dollars 305 567 was allocated towards the rural development programme to improve sanitation, create employment, and promote entrepreneurship development in rural areas.

“As Council, we set ourselves a 90 to 100 per cent programme implementation target. We are excited that we are on course; we just need to rededicate our efforts and remain focused for our dreams to become true,” he concluded.
