The Khorixas Town Council (KTC) has set aside N.dollars 146 000 for electrification of the informal settlements, Chief Executive Officer Andreas |Howoseb has said.

|Howoseb, in a meeting with the residents of the two new Khorixas informal settlements, Ada||gaugu and Saamstaan, said the council is aware of the challenges the residents face and will electrify the settlements before the end of 2021.

“The council is aware of the situation you are going through. We have set aside an amount of N.dollars 146 000 for electrification of both informal settlements. Before the end of this year, both settlements will be electrified. We already made contact with the regional electricity distributors last week to solve this issue,” he said.

He added that residents need to understand that development of informal settlements is one of the council’s number one priorities and residents should be patient as the council is doing its best to bring electricity to the new informal settlements.

Speaking at the same meeting representative of Ada||gaugu informal settlement, Bernatus Tjivera said due to lack of electricity, the community is coming across poisonous snakes daily.

“It is very dangerous for us to live in this location because it is close to the wild. Wild animals such as poisonous snakes come to our location,” he said.

He added that the community members on Sunday killed a python at night that nearly devoured a dog.

Meanwhile, Saamstaan informal settlement representative, Quintin Gaseb said in the past two weeks, five poisonous snakes were killed by the residents.

“We are coming across dangerous snakes that reach high and are even fast, it is because of God’s grace that we still have not buried any person killed by a snake,” he said.
