Kunene Boxing executive committee dissolved over alleged irregularities

The Namibia Boxing Federation on Saturday set up an interim committee that will oversee the administration of boxing activities in the Kunene Region after dissolving the sitting executive committee over alleged ineffectiveness, irregularities and failure to present financial statements.

The decision to dissolve the committee was taken by the NBF vice-president, Jemeria Ndjembo, at the Kunene Regional Boxing Federation annual general meeting held in Opuwo, where the committee chairperson and his deputy were also present.

The AGM was held to elect new executive members, provision of financial reports for the past four years and ratification of the regional boxing constitution. However, the executive committee could not provide any of these documents as they claimed that some of their affiliates were not present at the meeting and that they can only do so in their presence.

Ndjembo said an election was not necessary as there is still a lot of ineffectiveness and irregularities within the executive, while also accusing the chairperson of the regional federation Chris Kangoronduezu of putting the federation’s future in danger by not submitting financial reports and running the federation like “his own cuca shop”.

He said the region has been suffering under Kangoronduezu, who for the past years has been running the organisation on his own without consulting his colleagues, nor the mother body, adding that a new interim executive committee will now be overseeing the administration of boxing in the region until such a time the elections are identified.

The meeting further deteriorated into arguments and confrontations after Kangoronduezu dismissed the allegations, claiming that Ndjembo has a hidden agenda against Kunene Boxing Federation’s executives and that their motive was not to oversee the election but rather to oust the sitting executive, adding that Ndjembo’s interim executive committee will only exist in his head.

“You people have your own hidden agenda against us, we have an executive in place and it shall remain as such, and as for the financial reports and the constitution, you are requesting those [documents] that are with the treasurer, who is not present since you only informed us at the eleventh hour of this meeting,” charged Kangoronduezu.

Ndjembo has appointed Genevieve Hango as interim chairperson, to be deputised by Eerike Kanambunga, while Kephas Itaratjike will act as treasurer. The three have been given up to 14 working days to normalise the regional boxing fracases.
