LAC helps San with gender equality

Residents of Tsumeb and the San communities of Ombili and Ondera attended capacity-building workshops on a number of key Namibian laws during October, thanks to an initiative sponsored by Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb.A workshop conducted by the Legal Assistance Centre, sponsored by Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb brought members of the San communities in Tsumeb, Ombili and Ondera together to better understand the legal ramifications of gender equality.
The training was organised by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare at the request of Tsumeb’s Senior Magistrate, Peter Nangula who has expressed concern lately about the spread and regularity of various social problems in the Tsumeb District.
Laws explained at the workshops were the Domestic Violence Act, the Maintenance Act, the Married Persons Equality Act, the Rape Act, the Gender and Labour Act, and the     Child Abuse and Child Labour Act.
