Windhoek: The Namibia Football Association (NFA) is in talks with the City of Windhoek (CoW) to secure the land ownership necessary to unlock Fifa funding for the renovation and upgrading of the NFA Technical Centre. NFA’s interim secretary general, Cassius Moetie, on Monday hosted a courtesy visit by a CoW delegation led by Windhoek Mayor Ndeshihafela Laranja, as part of ongoing efforts to finalise the matter.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Moetie stressed the dire need to restore the Technical Centre, which he noted has long outlived its intended use. ‘The facility has exceeded its lifespan up to eight to 10 years now, and it is not in a good state,’ Moetie stated. He explained that although the land is currently not registered in the NFA’s name, Fifa has agreed to provide the necessary funds for its renovation.

However, Moetie clarified that the financial support from Fifa, while ready, is contingent upon the formal transfer of the land’s ownership to the NFA. ‘The money is on standby at Fifa to be wired to the NFA, but on condition that the land is transferred to the name of NFA. Only then will Fifa release the funds for renovation,’ he added.

Moetie reported that the discussions with the CoW are progressing well. ‘That is the conversation we are having with the CoW, and we are at an advanced stage. The mayor was here to see for herself, and there will be a management meeting with the City of Windhoek,’ he told Namibia Press Agency.
