Vientiane: The Lao government has deliberated on draft decrees aimed at strengthening governance and socio-economic management. This move underlines its dedication to achieving stability, fostering sustainable growth, and pursuing self-reliant development, as reported by the local news website Lao Phattana News.
According to Namibia Press Agency, during the Lao government’s monthly meeting for October, which took place from Monday to Tuesday, participants examined draft decrees covering various aspects, including the job market information system, state land allocation for housing, rubber development, border area management, cooperation between local officials and foreign organizations, and banknote management.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed October’s progress and set priorities for November. Despite facing global and regional challenges, the government reported steady progress in maintaining political stability, social order, and economic growth.
Measures were continued to stabilize prices, regulate trade, and promote agricultural production to enhance food security, reduce import reliance, and boost exports. Efforts included addressing electricity shortages by advancing small-scale solar power projects and expediting approved energy developments. Infrastructure improvements were underway nationwide, with a particular focus on repairing highways to support transport, trade, and investment.
Teacher shortages have been largely resolved, and the student dropout rate has declined. Furthermore, the government plans to implement emergency recovery projects in provinces affected by floods.
The meeting also instructed ministries and local authorities to maintain macroeconomic stability, promote import substitution, regulate exchange rates, and manage public debt as part of efforts to build an independent and self-reliant economy.
