The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has announced that schools will close early for the 2021 school year due to national examination papers that were reported to have been leaked by some candidates.

A media statement issued on Tuesday by Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture Executive Director Sanet Steenkamp, said the official school calendar indicates that schools will close for learners on 15 December 2021 and for teachers on 17 December 2021.

“However, due to the recent developments in the national examination in terms of the leakage of the papers, the ministry has decided to close schools early in order to assist regions to prepare for the continuation of the national examination in the 2022 school year for those subjects that are affected,” Steenkamp only said.

She said the ministry would issue a statement on the matter.

Schools will now close on 03 December for pre-primary until Grade 3 learners, and on 08 December for these teachers. Grade 4-10 learners will close on 09 December and their teachers on 15 December 2021.

Last week, New Era newspaper reported that the Namibian Police Force in Oshana Region arrested two learners from Elite Tutorial College in Ondangwa after they were found in possession of national examination papers.
