The newly sworn-in Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Samuel Matekane on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to President Hage Geingob, who doubles as the chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) organ on politics, defence and security.

Matekane was sworn in as Lesotho’s prime minister on 28 October 2022.

Speaking during the visit, Matekane said Lesotho is currently identifying areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, saying Namibia is the younger brother.

Matekane thanked Geingob for his unwavering support as the chair of the SADC organ on politics, defence and security during the country’s reform process which brought about key political change needed to bring stability to the country.

“There are various things that we need to look at and be able to agree to work on together. Now that we have won the political stability after taking over, we are going to make Lesotho great again, a Lesotho that every Masotho is proud of,” he said.

Geingob welcomed Matekane, saying Lesotho supported Namibia during the liberation struggle, therefore the two countries have a long history, adding that Lesotho has gone through difficult times of which Namibia has been involved in during the tenure of former President Hifikepunye Pohamba.

“Namibia is grateful for choosing it to be the first country to visit as the new prime minister and you are coming from a business background which is governed by principle… Now that there is peace and stability, it is time to deliver,” said Geingob.
