Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka officially received a set of newly renovated and upgraded classrooms, hostel and administration blocks at Linus Shashipapo Secondary school on Wednesday.

The school is situated some 113 kilometres east of Rundu in Kavango East Region’s Ndiyona constituency.

Linus Shashipapo Secondary School previously made headlines for its deplorable state when conditions at the school became unconducive and unbearable for the learners and staff.

Following an outcry from community members, the education ministry resolved to carry out major renovations at the school at a cost of over N.dollars 102 million.

“I visited the school a few years ago and my heart was moved by what I saw at the time. Eventually, we recommended that Linus Shashipapo Secondary School also benefit from the Education and Training Quality Improvement Project (ETQIP) under the Africa Development Bank,” Nghipondoka recounted.

The minister said collaboration with development partners like the African Development Bank, private entities and individuals alike is encouraged by the ministry.

The new infrastructure includes three hostel blocks, five storerooms, ablution blocks, multipurpose and dining halls, as well as teacher accommodation.

Twelve classrooms and existing hostel blocks as well as teacher houses were also renovated.

Meanwhile Nghipondoka, on behalf of the ministry, also officially took ownership of a fully-fledged primary school named Markus Ihemba Primary School in Rundu’s Sauyemwa settlement that cost N.dollars 24 million.

“I have it on good authority that this project has a second phase. Should the second phase start, it will include two special pre-primary classrooms, a science lab, 12 classrooms, a school hall, library, physical training block and netball courts,” she said.
