Local economic development must be cornerstone of national agenda: Mbumba

Vice-President NangoloMbumba said local economic development and transformation must be the cornerstone of national development agenda as the nation strive to overcome the triple challenge posed by unemployment, income inequality and poverty.

Mbumba said this in a speech delivered on his behalf on the occasion of the official opening of the 12th edition of the Eenhana Expo in the Ohangwena Region on Wednesday.

He pointed out that Eenhana Expo has become one of the premier and popular growing expo's and trade exhibition in the country.

According to Mbumba, Eenhana Town Council has initiated its expo as a platform for attracting and promote the town as an ideal investment destination, while also providing a platform for the private and public sectors to engage, exchange and explore viable alternatives to enhance the profile of Eenhana.

When the private and public sectors work together, network and facilitate trade, Mbumba said, will have a profound impact as the nation aim to improve the local economy and speed up the development of Eenhana and the entire Ohangwena Region.

The 2019 Eenhana Expo is hosted under the theme, Developing Synergies for a Stronger Local Economy.

The word synergy has profound meaning as it refers to the interaction of cooperation of two or more organisations, substances or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects, stated the Vice-President.

Speaking at the same event, mayor of Eenhana, Amos Nangolo told those present that the expo is his council's strategic exhibition platform aimed to bring Namibian's private, public sectors, international business community and individuals together.

The expo, Nangolo noted, brings people at one-stop-centre to promote and sell their products and services in order to improve the local socio-economy.

I would like to inform you that given the economic hardship, Eenhana Expo (2019) managed to host about 200 exhibitors in which some are international exhibitors, who have come to showcase their products and services, Nangolo cited.

He indicated that the expo last year attracted 204 exhibitors. The 2019 Eenhana Expo started on Monday and will run until Saturday.
