A 59-year-old man was arrested at Tsumkwe on Sunday after he allegedly attacked another man over a woman he claimed to be his girlfriend.

According to a media statement issued by the Namibian Police Force on Sunday, the suspect and the deceased allegedly had a quarrel over a woman who went missing from her house in Tsumkwe settlement in the early hours of the Sunday morning.

It is alleged that the suspect had gone to the woman’s place and did not find her there and thereafter continued to look for her at bars and shebeens at the settlement.

At about 00h25 on Sunday, the woman was allegedly found at a bar enjoying alcohol in the company of the deceased.

“A quarrel between the two men then broke out while the suspect allegedly kept on accusing the deceased to have taken away his girlfriend,” read the statement.

Their quarrel escalated into a physical fight and the suspect allegedly overpowered the deceased, whose age is estimated to be between 40 to 45 years.

The victim sustained serious body injuries and later succumbed to them that same Sunday morning, the statement indicated.

The suspect was arrested on a murder charge and is expected to appear in the Tsumkwe Periodical Court this week.

The deceased’s next of kin are yet to be informed of his death.

Police investigations continue.
