Man allegedly murdered with machete in Omaheke

A 25-year-old man died after he was allegedly hacked on the head with a machete during a fight at Epukiro RC in the Otjinene District on Saturday.

A crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Monday said the deceased has been identified as Josef Gariseb.

It is alleged that the two men were at a bar when Gariseb reportedly insulted the suspect’s mother and as a result, a fight broke out between the two.

“The fight was stopped and both men left in different directions. At around 12h30, it is alleged that they met at another bar and the fight continued,” said the report.

It further said Gariseb attempted to stab the suspect, who then also drew a knife which he allegedly used to stab Gariseb.

“The suspect then went to his house and collected a machete and a dropper pole and returned with it in search of the deceased. He found him at the bar where the first fight occurred and confronted him, he pulled out the machete and hacked the deceased on his head,” the report added.

Gariseb fell to the ground and the suspect allegedly kicked him in the head several times.

According to the report, he succumbed to his injuries at a local clinic about an hour after the incident.

His next of kin have been informed of his death.

The suspect has been arrested and police investigations continue.
