Man allegedly robbed and assaulted at Okahandja

A 28-year-old man at Okahandja was on Friday assaulted and robbed of his N.dollars 9 300 by five suspects who were armed with knives.

Namibian Police Force (namPol)'s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas in an interview with Nampa on Sunday said the victim was robbed of his money next to a biltong shop at Okahandja.

Andreas said the five suspects aged between 19 and 25 years had allegedly approached the victim near a biltong shop and pointed him a knife demanding money from him.

As the victim hesitated to give the money, one of the suspects cut him with a knife on the right hand, and that's when he surrendered his wallet that contained N.dollars 9 300, said Andreas.

However, the victim alerted the Okahandja Police Station shortly after incident, Andreas added.

She said the police officers from the police station also acted swiftly by coming down in hot pursuit of the five suspects.

All the five suspects were then caught up with and arrested by the police who recovered N.dollars 7 600 of the stolen money.

Andreas said N.dollars 1 700 also part of the money was still missing on Sunday.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate's Court on Monday.
