A 21-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after he allegedly stabbed his brother-in-law to death in the new Ombili informal area at Otjiwarongo.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Friday, said the deceased was identified by relatives as 28-year-old Morven Felix Doeseb.

“Doeseb and the suspect allegedly had a heated argument at about 18h00 on Thursday and it escalated into a physical fist fight. The suspect withdrew a knife from his pocket and stabbed Doeseb in the chest and in the back,” said the police officer.

Doeseb then walked a few metres from the scene and collapsed while still breathing, after which he was taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital where he died at about 20h00, said Mbeha.

The suspect fled to a house in the old Ombili informal settlement, where he was arrested and a knife suspected to have been used was also found the same night, Mbeha said.

He is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court once he is formally charged, she added.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
