Windhoek: A 36-year-old man was arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend at Epanya village in the Okatana Constituency on Monday. The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Oshana Region, Deputy Commissioner Fredrick Ndjadila, informed that the incident occurred around 15h30.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Ndilimeke Kaweda Heelu. Ndjadila stated that the suspect and the deceased, who shared a three-year-old son, were living together in the same household.
The suspect allegedly visited his mother’s homestead, approximately 600 meters away, with the couple’s son. He was reportedly pushing a borrowed wheelbarrow and left the boy there, telling his mother, “Here is your wheelbarrow,” before leaving on foot.
Ndjadila further explained that the deceased’s mother noticed the child was panicked and had bloodstains on his face, prompting her to check on the couple’s shack. Upon arrival, she found the door wide open and Heelu’s body lying in a pool of blood.
Deputy Commissioner Ndjadila described the scene, stating, “We found the deceased’s body with an open cut wound on her forehead, the back of her head, and her left arm, as well as a cut on her throat.” A panga, believed to be the murder weapon, was discovered next to her body.
The suspect has been arrested and is currently detained at the Oshakati Police Station. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
