A 22-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a girl aged 11 at Mushashani village in the Mukwe Constituency.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Chief Inspector in the Kavango East Region, Melanie Mburu, told Nampa the suspect has allegedly been having sexual intercourse with the girl under coercive circumstances since last year, although the police are not certain of the exact time frame.
According to Mburu the suspect also impregnated the girl.
He is expected to appear in the Mukwe Periodic Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
In an unrelated incident in the Kavango West Region, a 44-year-old man has been arrested for possession of cannabis at Mpungu village.
According to NamPol’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Kavango West Region, Deputy Commissioner Abner Agas, they had to stage a test buy to see if their source gave them the correct information.
Agas said the man was allegedly found with 71 grams of cannabis valued at N.dollars 710 in his possession.
He is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and police investigations continue.
